Stoicism, Restraint, and the Rabid Conservatives

I was amazed one night, while I was watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann, that he showed a video clip of a caller calling the Rush Limbaugh show. The caller claimed to be a conservative Republican and a veteran. The caller then blasted Limbaugh for having caused the election of Obama, because of his snide comments and mere stupidity. If Limbaugh is the face of the GOP, then many are scared to call themselves Republicans. His rabid and mean nature and gluttonous appearance show everything that is wrong with the Right. Think of Ann Coulter; Sean Hannity; Bill O'Reilly; Limbaugh; and Michael Savage and a brood of troglodytes comes to mind. In the old days the popular Right was represented by the stoic and calm demeanor (not to mention intellectualism) of the likes of people like William F. Buckley, Jr. Now the Right has decayed to a chimera of viciousness and no restraint. Conservative commentators will do everything they can do to seem more boisterous or pugnacious or outrageous than the next guy. Michael Savage calls liberalism a mental disorder, but if there was ever a prime example of paranoia and neuroticism it would be Michael Savage, a man who like a schizo hides his true identity (yes Mr. Weiner, Savage's real last name) under the alter ego persona. Democrats, headed by President Obama have become the new face of restraint, Roman republican style stoicism and clear thinking and intellectualism and that is why they overwhelmingly took a huge electoral win in the last presidential election.
